What's a good heading for the home page?
If you're one of my old fansubbing friends or, god forbid, a real-life acquaintance I've made the mistake of telling about this website, then I need no introduction. But if you're some random stranger who's stumbled upon this place somehow, allow me to introduce myself. By the way, whenever you see a dotted underline on this website, it means you can mouse over it for some parenthetical alt text. I think it's probably a nice way to allow me to ramble without cluttering the site up with inane garbage. And if you're on mobile... Well, there's your first mistake.
As I really hope you've managed to guess, I'm DubstepKazoo. I'm a late-twenties white guy living in Tokyo, and as you can see, I've decided to make a website, perhaps the most pretentious thing a twentysomething white guy can do short of writing a book. I translate Japanese gacha games in-house for a living, and I have a long and storied history of fansubbing, too. My proudest work there is probably when I did the Heaven's Feel movies with Kaleido, though my most recent work is the Summer 2024 anime ATRI, also with Kaleido. I've been in a few fansubbing groups over the years, and Kaleido is easily my favorite. The people there really know their stuff, not only in the specific field they deal with, but even in other fields. Like, its superhuman leader LightArrowsEXE doesn't really know Japanese, but his understanding of the nature of translation far eclipses that of almost every actual translator I've ever seen, professional or otherwise. I often have lots of stimulating conversation on that topic with him and my usual editor, Lonesome.
I also lead a group of my own: Operation Bellflower, currently working on an English patch for a VN I really liked. It's how I first met Lonesome: he applied to be my editor, I gave him a test, and I discovered that despite him being a complete neophyte, he's the best editor I've ever had the pleasure to work with.
But anyway, as for what you can expect from this site? I dunno. I think I'm just gonna catalog the various content I consoom out here in Japan. You know, the various anime, manga, light novels, and games and whatnot. Might write some reviews every now and again, even. I also really like conlangs and spelling reforms and other linguistics nerd stuff, so I'll probably ramble about that stuff too. Note that the guestbook is the one place on this website that uses trace amounts of JavaScript, since it's impossible to implement a guestbook in HTML and CSS alone. If you have sworn JavaScript off, you won't be able to post in it. Sorry.
